Thanks to support of the local Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP) organization, Gunnison Valley Hospital continues to expand breast care services. In addition to digital mammography, patients can now receive further detection and diagnosis with ultrasound, biopsies and much of their oncology and rehabilitation here at home. TETWP has donated the major equipment that makes these services possible — including the latest ultrasound technology this year. And GVH is investing in this commitment, too. Last summer, GVH hired Dr. Stephania Timothy, a general surgeon who provides expertise in breast cancer and breast care and preventions. GVH is also bringing in vacuum assisted and stereotactic technology, which aid in achieving more accurate pathology reports, and a new computer-aided detection system. The goal of the TETWP  collaboration with GVH, according to program organizer and country music legend Dean Dillon, is for GVH to “become the best small hospital in the country for breast care and breast cancer care.”
